What Are We Learning This Term

Welcome to the EYFS

Caterpillars:  Mrs Johnson, Mrs Wilde and Mrs Scott

What are we learning about?

In Nursery this term we will be thinking about Superheroes and then Minibeasts and their habitats.

We will be learning some new nursery rhymes and songs including The Grand Old Duke of York and rhymes associated with minibeasts such as 5 little bees and There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden.

Our stories for this term will include The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Ladybird, ladybird to develop life cycle knowledge and an understanding of story sequences.

We will hopefully visit the Ark Park to look for minibeasts in and amongst the lovely gardens and also visit Susangma’s Garden at school to do some more minibeast hunting.

In Literacy we shall be continuing to learn our speedy sounds through the Read, Write Inc programme and through play and games in the classroom.  Alongside writing and fine motor opportunities the children are also being encouraged to recognise and write their own names.

After a very successful World Book Day stay and play we are excited to be extending our stay and play dates to every Thursday session to share a book or play a game with your child. As before you can also help your child choose a book to share at home.  We look forwards to seeing you there.

In Maths we are going to be concentrating on number through games and songs.  We aim to provide the opportunities for your children to be able to count confidently, recognise numbers and match them to a quantity.  We shall also be exploring shape, size and measures through play, especially in our outdoor area.

You could help your child by encouraging them to: go to the toilet independently; put their coat on (and fasten it) by themselves; share a book or a jigsaw puzzle to help their concentration; count the stairs to bed; recognise numbers on the way to school and, last but not least, be confident and enjoy their time at nursery.

If you have any concerns or would like to speak to a member of staff about anything, please see the member of the nursery team.  We are here to help in whatever way we can and help the children be the best they can be!

Thank you and kind regards,

The Caterpillar team
